George and Mildred were like the old loveable couple next door.
Terry and June were middle class. Not from my neighbourhood.

When I was at school, we went to see No Man’s Land by Harold Pinter. Paul Eddington was in it and he was having a drink with Richard Briers at the end, a few feet from us. I didn’t say anything to either of them.

It was indeed. Penelope Wilton was especially brilliant at quietly seething.

I fancied Mildred as a 12 year old as she was always up for it.
I was 12 by the way, not her...

Was it ever explained in Man About The House or George & Mildred why George was so reluctant to respond to the sexual interest of Mildred who always appeared a bit of a GOER? More understandable with Arthur & Olive in On The Buses but what was George’s problem?
Notice that in Man About The House Norman Eshley appeared in an early episode as one character and then came back as Robins brother & married Chrissie. He was next seen in George & Mildred as the next door neighbour Jeffrey married to another woman.
Was only thinking of him as was watching an episode of The Sweeney last week where he joins the team and cracks up like a big poof

Because George was a bit camp, I always assumed the unspoken hint was that he was a closet homosexual.

only1bb Yes. He was the golden boy recruit but when the guns started firing he ran away
Nurse I thought George was sometimes a bit creepy around the girls upstairs and thought there was an episode where he had some ‘girlie’ mags. When Robin first moved in they pretended he was gay as he was sharing with girls but don’t remember George reacting to that. Just seemed to be a comedy TROPE of the time. Hen pecked sexually inadequate husband.

Yes, on reflection I think you must be right, Sven. I only saw a few episodes of G&M and may have been reacting to the actor's 'vibe' rather than the character.

Seems he is still knocking about at 87 Yootha Joyce (Mildred) died an alcoholic at 53 Probably didn’t help that she at one time was married to Dave ( the barman at the Winchester ) from Minder.

The actress who played Ann Fourmile (Tristan’s mum) also played Terrys sister in the Likely lads which was another excellent sitcom of its time.
